Intro to Crypto

How to easily convert crypto to cash with RockWallet

Cashing out your crypto should be an easy and seamless experience. With RockWallet, you can quickly convert BTC and other digital assets into cash without unnecessary steps or complications.

If you want to convert crypto to cash, RockWallet lets you do it directly from your wallet, without sending your crypto to a separate exchange first. You sell the crypto you already hold, and the cash lands in your linked bank account through an ACH electronic bank transfer. This guide covers exactly how that works, what it costs, how long it takes, which coins qualify, and what to check if something goes wrong.

What you'll need before you start

A few things need to be in place before the "Sell" button in your RockWallet app will actually work.

  • A verified account. Selling crypto requires completed identity verification (KYC). If you haven't finished that step yet, do it first since it's the most common reason the Sell feature doesn't appear.
  • A supported U.S. state. Selling is currently available in select U.S. states only, and only through ACH bank transfer.
  • A linked bank account. RockWallet uses Plaid, a widely used open banking platform, to connect your account. Plaid supports most major U.S. banks and credit unions, so this step usually takes a couple of minutes.
  • Crypto to sell. You'll need at least $30 worth of a supported asset, since that's RockWallet's minimum Sell amount.

How to convert crypto to cash with RockWallet

Once your account is verified and your bank is linked, converting crypto to cash takes just a few taps.

  1. Open the Sell screen. From the Home or Asset page, select the crypto you want to sell and tap "Sell."
  2. Enter the amount. Choose how much you want to convert, either as a crypto amount or a cash amount.
  3. Review the Withdrawal Preview. This screen shows the exact fee and the amount that will hit your bank account, so there's nothing to guess at.
  4. Confirm the transaction. Once you approve it, RockWallet converts the crypto and initiates the ACH transfer to your linked account.
  5. Wait for the transfer to complete. Funds typically arrive within 3 to 5 business days.

That's the entire process. There's no separate withdrawal request or support ticket required for a standard sell.

Which cryptocurrencies you can convert to cash

RockWallet currently supports selling Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, BSV, Ethereum, Litecoin, USDT, USDC, XRP, and MNEE (both the ERC-20 and 1Sat versions). Availability can vary by state, country, and region, so it's worth checking inside the app if a specific asset doesn't show up as sellable.

One detail worth knowing ahead of time. If you're selling an ERC-20 token like USDC, USDT, or MNEE (ERC-20), you'll need a small amount of Ethereum in your wallet to cover the network fee. That fee goes to the Ethereum network itself, not to RockWallet, and it can't be deducted from the token you're selling.

Fees for converting crypto to cash

RockWallet charges a processing fee on ACH sells, and it always appears on the Withdrawal Preview screen before you confirm, so you see the exact number before committing to anything.

A couple of other costs are worth planning around:

  • Your bank may charge its own fee. Some banks add a small processing or transfer fee on incoming ACH deposits, separate from anything RockWallet charges.
  • Network fees apply to ERC-20 tokens. As mentioned above, selling USDC, USDT, or similar tokens requires a small Ethereum balance to cover the gas fee.

For a deeper look at how network fees work and why they fluctuate, see our guide to understanding gas fees.

How long does a withdrawal take?

Most people want a straight answer here, so here it is. A Sell transaction via ACH typically takes 3 to 5 business days from start to finish.

That window covers a few separate steps happening behind the scenes. Your identity and transaction get verified, your crypto is converted, and the cash gets transferred to your linked bank account. None of those steps are instant on the banking side, which is true of ACH transfers generally, not something specific to RockWallet.

ACH, short for Automated Clearing House, is the electronic network that most U.S. banks use to move money between accounts. It's the same system behind direct deposit paychecks and most bill payments, and it's been the backbone of U.S. bank transfers for decades. Nacha, the organization that governs the ACH network, processes tens of billions of these transfers every year. It's reliable and inexpensive, but it moves in batches rather than instantly, which is why the timeline runs in business days rather than minutes.

Weekends and bank holidays can add a day or two, since ACH transfers only process on business days.

ACH vs. other ways to cash out crypto

RockWallet's Sell feature uses ACH bank transfer, and it's worth understanding why that's the method most crypto platforms lean on for cashing out, plus how it compares to the alternatives you'll see elsewhere in the industry.

  • ACH bank transfer: Typically costs a small, flat processing fee and takes a few business days. This is what RockWallet uses.
  • Debit card withdrawal: Some platforms offer instant payouts to a debit card, but usually charge a noticeably higher percentage fee for the speed.
  • Crypto ATMs: Convenient for small cash amounts on the spot, but fees are typically the highest of any cash-out method by a wide margin.

ACH lands in the middle. It's not instant, but it's reliable and inexpensive relative to the faster options. If timing matters more to you than cost for a specific situation, that's a real tradeoff worth weighing, not a sign that ACH is doing something wrong. Security considerations when cashing out

Moving crypto into cash is a good moment to double-check a few basics, since it's the point where your digital assets and your traditional bank account intersect.

  • Confirm your linked bank account is correct before you sell, especially if you've recently switched banks or updated account details.
  • Watch for phishing attempts that impersonate RockWallet support asking for your PIN, password, or verification codes. RockWallet will never ask for these over email or text.
  • Check RockWallet's own security posture if you're evaluating the platform. It's SOC 2 Type II compliant and ISO 27001 certified, both independently audited standards covering how customer data and platform security are handled.
  • Look up RockWallet's regulatory status directly if you want to verify it yourself. RockWallet is registered with FinCEN as a Money Services Business, which you can confirm through FinCEN's public MSB registry rather than taking any company's word for it.
  • Remember RockWallet is a non-custodial wallet. You hold your own private keys and recovery phrase up until the point you sell, which is different from platforms where a company holds your crypto for you the whole time.

Troubleshooting common issues

A few things can get in the way of a smooth sell. Here's what usually causes them and how to fix it.

The "Sell" option isn't showing up in my app. This almost always comes down to one of two things. Your account isn't fully verified yet, or you're located in a state where the Sell feature isn't currently supported. Complete verification first if you haven't, since that resolves it in most cases.

My bank declined the transfer. Double-check that your linked account has the correct routing and account details, and confirm with your bank that ACH transfers aren't blocked on their end. Some banks flag first-time transfers from a new source for manual review.

My transaction seems stuck. A brief delay isn't unusual, particularly around weekends or bank holidays. If it's been longer than 5 business days, contact RockWallet support with your transaction ID so the team can look into it directly.

I need help beyond what's here. RockWallet's Help Center covers sell transactions, fees, limits, and troubleshooting in more depth, including for users still on the legacy app who haven't moved to the new RockWallet app yet.

If a term in this guide is new to you, like network fees or digital assets more generally, RockWallet's Crypto Glossary is a good place to look it up.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the cash transfer take?

A standard Sell transaction via ACH takes about 3 to 5 business days from confirmation to the funds landing in your bank account. Weekends and bank holidays can add a day or two since ACH transfers only process on business days.

Are there withdrawal fees?

Yes. RockWallet charges a processing fee on ACH sells, shown upfront on the Withdrawal Preview screen before you confirm. Your bank may also charge its own fee on incoming transfers, and selling ERC-20 tokens like USDC or USDT requires a small Ethereum network fee in addition.

Which cryptocurrencies can I convert to cash?

RockWallet currently supports selling Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, BSV, Ethereum, Litecoin, USDT, USDC, XRP, and MNEE (ERC-20 and 1Sat). Availability depends on your state, country, and region.

Is there a minimum withdrawal amount?

Yes. The minimum amount for a Sell transaction is $30 USD. ACH sells are also capped at $5,000 per week and $10,000 per month, in supported U.S. states.

Why can't I find the Sell feature in my app?

It's usually one of two reasons. Your account verification isn't complete, or the Sell feature isn't yet supported in your state. Selling is currently limited to select U.S. states and processed only through ACH bank transfer.
